The Backup And Restore Capability Fails After Windows 7 Update

With the January 2022 general update, it appears that Windows 7 users will be in a mess. As it turns out, consumers are experiencing problems with the recovery CDs, which fail abruptly.

Microsoft claims that Windows 7 recovery CDs produced using the Control Panel Backup and Restore software will fail to boot. This only affects after installing Windows updates released on January 11, 2022.

However, Microsoft does not explain why this occurs. It stated that the recovery CDs would operate on systems that did not have the troublesome updates installed. According to the firm, no other third-party backup or recovery programs are known to be impacted by this known vulnerability. Microsoft, thankfully, is already working on an upgrade.

The Story So Far

According to the tech support report, Microsoft released an update named KB5013438 for Windows 7 on January 11th, 2022. Following the upgrade, customers who produced a recovery disc using the Control Panel’s built-in Backup and Restore software are experiencing problems with the recovery disc.

It should be noted that this applies to both CDs and DVDs used for the recovery disc. Furthermore, it is only applicable to those who generated discs after installing KB5013438.

Because of its conventional Windows approach, Windows 7 is presently the market leader in terms of total Windows OS users. It is most likely one of the best Windows operating systems available. Microsoft shifted to a more current approach after Windows 7, i.e. Windows 8 and after.

Endnote

All editions of Windows 10 versions 1607 or later, as well as all editions of Windows 11, are affected by the recovery disc start failures. Redmond also stated that it is working on a fix for this issue, which would be included in a future edition.
